frequently asked questions
Where should I stay in Panama City Beach?
Visitors can choose from thousands of rooms along 18 miles of the Gulf of Mexico. There is an abundance of condos available to rent. On the older more established east end you’ll find a variety of nightlife, attractions, and condos close together. Crowds are more abundant and skew a bit younger. In the middle section of PCB you’ll find an abundance of shopping and trendy restaurants. On the quiet west end of the beach you’ll start to see a transition from condos to residential homes. The west end is quiet, family-friendly, and only a 10 minute drive to Pier Park and Rosemary Beach. Resorts like Celadon Beach Resort and Splash Resort are popular for visitors looking for a more laid back experience. An abundance of restaurants and local favorites also can be found here.
What do the beach flags mean?
The beach warning flag system is meant to keep people safe. Visitors should review and observe all flag warnings. Double red means water closed to the public, single red means high hazard (high surf and/or strong currents), single yellow is medium hazard, single green is low hazard, and single purple is dangerous marine life. Visitors can be fined for entering the water when a double red flag is present. An absence of flags does not assure safe waters.
Best Reasons to Visit Panama City Beach
If you’ve never experienced the Gulf Coast, it’s almost guaranteed you’ll fall in love with the Florida Panhandle when you visit Panama City Beach. Known for its sugar sand white beaches, clear waters, and amazing sunsets, this Northwest Florida getaway offers year round entertainment and activities. Here are some of the best reasons to visit Panama City Beach.
The Beach
Legendary doesn’t begin to describe the beach conditions in Panama City Beach. The sand itself is white, powdery, soft — its attributed to quartz crystals washing down from the Appalachian Mountains centuries ago. Along their journey, the crystals were bleached, ground, smoothed, and polished. The surf and tides of the Gulf of Mexico are responsible for depositing these millions of grains of sugar-white sand onto the pristine shoreline....the result is the beautiful, renowned beaches of Panama City Beach.
The Water
How does an average water temperature of 81 degrees sound to you? That’s what you’ll get April-September in Panama City Beach and one of the big reasons 17 million people flock to these beaches every year. Clear, aqua colored waters allow visitors to see sea turtles, dolphins, fish, rays, and sharks right from the balcony of PCB Penthouse.
Sunsets
Our realtor told us that he and his girlfriend were visiting Panama City Beach, 48 sunsets later they decided they weren’t leaving. Sunsets here are simply breathtaking. Combine them with penthouse views of the beach and ocean, mix in your favorite drink, and you’ve got a recipe for relaxation!
Seafood
If you aren’t a fan of seafood, I won’t judge you to harshly, but you’re going to miss out on some great cuisine in Panama City Beach. Fresh is the key to great seafood and you won’t find anything less here. Best of all, some of the greatest food comes from the least pretentious establishments you’ll ever visit. That’s my way of saying “hit the dive bars”!
Proximity
Panama City Beach is easy to get to, hence the 17 million annual visitors. For many in the Midwest, it’s worth the drive but you can easily fly into the Northwest Florida Beaches International Airport (ECP). For us, it’s about a 12 hour drive from Dallas.
Activities
If the beach isn’t enough for you, or you need a change of pace, there are tons of family friendly activities. Dolphin tours, fishing tours (you’ll see dolphins too as they steal your catch), helicopter tours, mini golf, go karts, water parks, air boat tours, Shell Island, Pier Park, and much more are available in PCB.
Festivals
Panama City Beach used to have a reputation as a destination for spring breakers, but has been taking measures to attract more adults and families. (no booze on the beach in March). One of the ways to do this is through food, wine, and music festivals like the Seabreeze Jazz Festival, SandJam Fest, and Pepsi Gulf Coast Jam.
